Leo Joseph Sheehan, faithful, loving, energetic, delightful, brilliant, and funny husband, father of seven, grandfather of fifteen, and great-grandfather of three went home to the Lord June 22, 2014, with his children at his side. Born May 24, 1934 in Boston, Massachusetts, and son to Charles and Mary Sheehan of Arlington, Massachusetts, he is survived by his children Wendy, Laurie, Michael, Danny, Kathy, Christy, and Kerry; his grandchildren Sarah, Shannon, Nathaniel, Matthew, Sean, Becky, Kaitie, Kiera, Kai, Faith, Rachel, Joe, Will, Liam, and Rory, and his great-grandchildren Autumn, Lacey, and Henry. He is preceded in death by his loving wife of 53 years, Mary Lou.
A graduate of the United States Naval Academy (Class of 1956) and retired United States Air Force lieutenant colonel, he served his country with distinction for 21 years in active service, and, later, for 30 years as a systems engineer for the nation’s defense contracting industry. He also was active in his church and community, tutoring students, supporting youth sports, and serving countless hungry and homeless with clothing and meals he and Mary Lou prepared for Christ House in Alexandria, Virginia. He lived a life committed to his faith, setting an example for all who knew and loved him.
Funeral arrangements handled by Adams-Green, 721 Elden Street, Herndon, Virginia. Funeral Mass at St. John Neumann Catholic Church, 11900 Lawyers Road, Reston, Virginia to be celebrated by the Reverend William H. Dougherty, OSFS.
He was a true patriot who dearly loved his God, family, friends, community, and country.
