Charles Samuel Morris, retired Navy
submarine commander and resident of Pass-a-grille, Florida, went to be with the
Lord on November 10th, 2016 at the age of 83 after a long journey with cancer.
He is survived by his wife of 59 years, Daisy; two daughters, Denise and Kitty;
six grandchildren, Kristin, Kelly, Sean, David, Michael, and Jaclyn; two
great-grandchildren, Liam and Kaitlyn; along with siblings, Barbara, Cathy and
Richard. Born in Waynesburg, Pennsylvania in 1933 to Charles and Catherine Morris.
Sam joined the Marines at age 17. Due to his exceptional performance, he was
selected to study engineering at the Naval Academy and graduated in 1956. Sam
married the love of his life, Daisy, on January 12th, 1957. During his career
in the Navy, Sam and family were stationed at several Naval Ports along the
Eastern Seaboard. Sam retired with the rank of Commander and the family settled
in the area of St. Pete Beach, Florida where he began a second career as a
software engineer in the defense industry. Sam was a skilled waterman and avid
swimmer. He enjoyed taking his family and friends sailing on his beloved
schooner, Lady Kristin. Sam had a tremendous sense of humor and was very
generous to his family. He will be deeply missed by all who knew him. A graveside
service is scheduled for December 8, 2016 at 1:30PM at Bay Pines National
Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, donations may be to the American Cancer Society.
