Jimmie D. Lakey of Caldwell, ID, died on 4 December 2007
at home of natural causes. He was 73 years old. Jimmie was born on 9 June 1934
to Dale and Lucille Lakey at St. Luke’s Hospital in Boise. He graduated from
Boise High School in 1952 and the U.S. Naval Academy in 1956 and served in the
U.S. Navy.
He was designated a naval aviator and reached the rank of
lieutenant before resigning his commission in 1977. He loved the naval service,
but had to leave it to provide close support to his family. Jim had tours at
the Naval Postgraduate School and the Pacific Division, OpTevFor at North
Island NAS, San Diego, CA. He later flew commercial jets for USAIR and also
worked two years for the U.S Forest Service.
Jim loved his flying career. He put his wife and children
first in his life. He gave ultimate encouragement to those who came to him with
a heavy heart. Jim’s crowning jewels were his children. His favorite expression
to his children was that they were princes and princesses of a Heavenly Father
and to conduct themselves as royal heirs. Jim possessed a keen intellect and
searched out the deeper meaning of life. He held judgments to himself and
always verbally expressed an outpouring of love to his family and friends.
Survivors include his wife, Anne Marie Lakey; two sons, Gregory Scott Lakey and
his wife, Lorie of Utah, and James Caleb Lakey and his wife, Suzy of Germany;
