Bob joined us via the Naval Academy Prep School
after a stint in the Fleet, and aced the curricula there, and at USNA. He was also a model of physical fitness, but
his weight lifting resulted in a chronic back ailment which resulted in his
graduating without a commission. Among
the numerous offers of employment which came his way, he was pleased to accept
a position with Babcock & Wilcox in Narrows, Virginia; and married his
sweetheart Miriam in the chapel right after graduation.
Bob was injured severely in an auto accident in Narrows
on July 20th, 1956, and subsequently died on July 24th at the Bluefield
Sanatorium, Bluefield West Virginia. At
the time, he was survived by his bride, Miriam, who relocated to Bayonne NJ;
his parents, Mr. & Mrs. E. E. Houghton of Flushing NY; and three sisters.
