Joe Rex Davis
passed away on 30 March 2008 after a short illness with cancer. He was 73 years
old. Rex was born in Indianapolis, IN, on 30 July 1934 to Joe and Pauline
Davis. He graduated in 1952 from Arsenal Technical High School in Indianapolis.
After graduating
from the Naval Academy with the Class of 1956, Rex completed Air Training
Command, specializing in aircraft maintenance at Chanute Air Force Base, IL,
and then was stationed at Mountain Home Air Force Base in Idaho.
After resigning his commission in 1959, he
remained in the Air Force Reserve until 1970. He worked for a short time with
Boeing in Seattle, WA, and then began a long career in the nuclear industry.
From 1960 until 1973, he worked for Argonne National Labs as operations shift
supervisor and assistant operations manager. He then worked for Washington
Public Power in Richland, WA, and EPRI in Palo Alto, CA. In 1981, he became
self-employed and worked as a consultant in the nuclear field. Rex’s hobbies
included hunting, handball, sculpting in alabaster, cooking, target shooting,
travel and long distance running. He ran in a number of marathons. He also
worked out at a gym, lifting weights until the fall of 2007.
Rex is survived
by his wife, Sandy; sons, Danny, Doug and Matt; and daughters Ann, April,
Becky, Rachel and Bonnie from a previous marriage; stepdaughters, Darci and
Lori; sister, Paula; and numerous grandchildren. A memorial service was held on
5 April 2008 in Mesa, AZ, at Mountain View Memorial Gardens. The Davis Family
