William M. Musgrove
William M. Musgrove died peacefully on Wednesday, August 6, 2014, at St. Mary's Hospital in Amsterdam with his loving family by his side. He was 83. Born in Sandy Springs, Maryland on December 10, 1930, he was the son of the late Millard and Ethel Wright Musgrove. He first began his career as a Postman before joining the Navy in 1951. He entered the Naval Academy, graduating in 1956. Bill married the love of his life, Dorothy Oliver, on June 3, 1956, and started their family while continuing to serve in the Navy until his retirement in 1966 at the rank of Lieutenant. He went on to graduate school while he served, then moved the family to West Hill in Rotterdam in 1966 and continued his career with General Electric in Schenectady as an engineer, moving to a position at the Knolls Atomic Power Laboratory in 1972, and retiring in 1992. He and Dottie then spent their time traveling, playing golf and bridge at every opportunity, and enjoying each other and their family until Dottie's sudden and unexpected passing in 2007. Bill was a member of the Professional Engineer's Association, the Schenectady Curling Club, the Mayfield Yacht Club, the Edison Club and the KAPL Retirees. He was also a member of the Disabled American Veterans and the American Nuclear Society. He had a great love of life, and enjoyed sailing, golf and playing cards, especially bridge, but his greatest pleasure came from sharing stories of his Navy days with family, friends and anyone who would listen. He took great pride in his gardens, his home, and his family. He will be sadly missed by all who knew and loved him. Bill was predeceased by his wife, Dottie, with whom he shared a wonderful 51-year love affair. Survivors include his three children, Susan Kaplan and her husband, Steven of Houston, Texas, Leigh Musgrove and her companion, Michael Malinowski of Niskayuna, New York and Dean Musgrove and his wife, Kimberly of Glenville, New York; eight grandchildren, Philip, Daniel, Anne, Cherie, Aurora, Mitch, Joseph and Chrissy and her husband, Larry; three great-grandchildren, Mariah, Suzanna and Katelynn; three siblings, Robert Musgrove and his wife, Eve of Liberty, South Carolina, Lois Cain and her husband, Jack of Orlando, Florida, and Sam Musgrove and his wife, Peg of Eustis, Florida; his devoted companion, Elsie Schiffner who helped him tremendously in his Scotia home for the past five years; and several nieces, nephews and cousins.
